How the engine worked it out
4 sections across 11'-0". Sections come in 12", 18", 24", 30" and 36" widths, clear between the uprights. 11'-0" less 5 uprights at 3/4" and 1" of filler leaves 10'-7 1/4" for sections. Fewer than 4 would have to be wider than 36", so there are 4, as even as the standard widths allow: 30", 36", 30" and 30", 10'-6" in all. Another 4 3/4" of opening and a section steps up a size.
2 1/4" filler at the left wall. The 2 1/4" left after the sections and uprights is filler, scribed to the wall on site. It stays between 1" and 7": once it would reach that, a section steps up a size or a new one is added, and the filler drops back.
System 7'-10" high, 7'-4 1/2" clear inside. It stops 2" under the 8'-0" ceiling, the room needed to stand a panel up during installation. Less the 4" toe kick and the fixed top and bottom shelves, each section has 7'-4 1/2" clear; double hang needs 6'-8 3/4".
3 centre supports. A round rod spans up to 28" between supports. S2's 2 rods (35 3/4") and S3's rod (29 3/4") are longer, so each gets a support at its centre, hung from the shelf over it. An oval rod spans 32".
