Invented data, illustrative rules. Fire-rated openings are a life-safety matter. A real rating belongs to a door, frame and hardware assembly as tested and labeled, under the code adopted for the project. Check every rated opening against the manufacturers' published listings and with the authority having jurisdiction. Don't use this demo to specify, order or install one.

How the engine worked it out

45-minute opening. Glass up to 1,296 sq in per leaf, a fusible-link louver at most, a lock that latches positively and a closer. The door is hollow metal with a honeycomb core in a Bastion frame, each of which carries 45 minutes here.
Leaf 2'-11 3/4" × 6'-11 1/8" as made. The 3'-0" × 7'-0" nominal size less 1/8" at the jambs, 1/8" at the head and a 3/4" undercut.
Bastion welded frame, 5 3/4" jamb. Its 4 7/8" throat (the jamb depth less a 7/16" backbend each side) wraps the 4 7/8" wall: 3 5/8" steel studs with one layer of 5/8" gypsum board each side.
3 ball bearing hinges per leaf. A 3'-0" × 7'-0" leaf takes three: one for every 30" of height, or part of it.
Half lite 24" × 30". 720 sq in of fire-rated ceramic glass per leaf, within the 1,296 sq in a 45-minute door takes.

Fiberglass-reinforced: Fiberglass-reinforced doors in this catalogue go up to 20 minutes, so it can't make a 45-minute door.

Core

Polystyrene: A polystyrene core carries up to 20 minutes, so it can't go in a 45-minute door.
Solid: Hollow metal doors are built with honeycomb, polystyrene and mineral cores, not solid.

4 5/8": A 4 5/8" jamb has a 3 3/4" throat, 1 1/8" narrower than the 4 7/8" wall: it won't go over it.
7": A 7" jamb has a 6 1/8" throat, 1 1/4" wider than the 4 7/8" wall: the frame would stand off the wall and rattle.
8 1/8": An 8 1/8" jamb has a 7 1/4" throat, 2 3/8" wider than the 4 7/8" wall: the frame would stand off the wall and rattle.
8 1/2": An 8 1/2" jamb has a 7 5/8" throat, 2 3/4" wider than the 4 7/8" wall: the frame would stand off the wall and rattle.
